Pacific Pillow Co. Wanderlust Series: East Coast, Australia

Posted on August 10, 2017 by Nigel Milnes

There's nothing quite like exploring your own home. Staycations are incredibly popular here in Australia, so we thought we'd focus on the east coast as the first destination in our Wanderlust Series. From Kirra to Yamba, Burleigh to Byron Bay... We've rounded up our favourite spots along the east coast which inspired the collection of customised cushions below.

Kirra & Coolangatta

Kirra and Coolangatta are the perfect destinations for any avid surfer in Australia. Home to the famous Snapper Rocks, pros and beginnings alike try their hand surfing the perfect waves here. The towns almost blend into one, with fantastic acres and restaurants alined along the beachfront. If surfing isn’t your thing, relax on Greenmount Beach or explore the coastal walks which are nearby. Kirra and Coolangatta offer an idyllic spot for families looking to escape city life too, with endless outdoor possibilities for children.

Currumbin & Palm Beach

We’re lucky enough to call Currumbin and Palm Beach home. A particularly special stretch of sand, with old-school beach shacks lined along the road side behind. Caffeine lovers won’t be disappointed by the endless cafes on offer serving the finest cups of coffee on the Gold Coast. Our particular favourite is Barefoot Barista in Palm Beach for long Sunday brunches. Further south sits sleep Currumbin, a small town with a stunning surf beach and estuary. This is a great spot for swimming in the Currumbin Creek and wandering along the river banks. Don’t miss sunset in Currumbin and Palm Beach, it’s a view which never gets old and inspired our collection of cushions below.

Surfer’s Paradise

The partying mecca of Australia, Surfer’s Paradise draws in a young crowd with endless clubs, bars and shopping malls to choose from. The long stretch of beach serves as the perfect hangover remedy in summer, before it starts all over again. If you’re in search of a dance floor whilst on the Gold Coast, then Surfer’s Paradise is definitely for you.

Byron Bay

Byron Bay welcomes a mix of bohemians, surfers and hippies alike. It has a strong backpacker vibe which can make it a transient place at times with so many people travelling through, but it definitely has a unique atmosphere like anywhere else in Australia. Try out reiki, refine your yoga practice, join a raw vegan cooking class and surf perfect peelers at The Pass. Byron Bay is undeniably beautiful, with it's sweeping main beach, bustling wide streets and stunning, vast views from the lighthouse perched on Cape Byron’s hill top.

Burleigh

Beautiful Burleigh is as laid back as surfer towns come. It has a relaxed retro vibe with plenty of quirky cafes and coffee shops to try out. Add the stylish interior stores and vintage boutiques, and you have the perfect destination for any young hipster. Burleigh is also a hot spot for families, with a tight-knit community of locals and travellers. And of course, it draws in plenty of surfers from around the world with its famous right-hand point break which peels off of the rocks with the pine trees behind.

Yamba

The quaint fishing town of Yamba has a lovely bohemian lifestyle, beautifully raw beaches, and a variety of cafes and restaurants serving wholesome, home grown goodness. Yamba is the perfect place to visit for a long weekend, whether you ramble along the coastal paths, bush walk in Yuraygir National Park, kayak on the Clarence River, surf one of the hidden breaks or watch the waves from one of the clifftop pubs with a chilled glass of wine in hand.
